Here is some of my favorite sites from around the web and other miscellaneous resources.
Language Learning
  • Itazuraneko A site here on Neocities that has not only a guide to learning Japanese, but a wealth of resources as well. You can find links to untranslated visual novels, books, textbooks, and much more. You can find anything from complete beginner's textbooks to classical Japanese literature here.

  • Animelon An anime streaming site intended for learners of Japanese. At the moment, their library is pretty extensive but you won't be able to find every anime ever here. What's great about Animelon is that you can chose to watch with Japanese subtitles, romaji subtitles, kana subtitles, English subtitles, or all of the above if you'd like. You can also click on a word in the transcript to view the definition, and later review these words in Animelon's built in SRS (spaced repetition system).

  • jpdb Japanese to English dictionary that includes example sentences and pitch accent. This site also has built-in SRS decks made from vocab lists taken from anime, books, visual novels, and more. You can also track the words and kanji you've learned and jpdb will show you how much of a given piece of media you will be able to understand. For example, I can look up an anime/VN/drama/etc., see what percentage of words I would understand, and then decide if I wanted to watch that anime or if it would be better to study something else that may be closer to my level. But if I really wanted to watch an anime that jpdb estimates I would only have 50% comprehension of, I can add that anime as a deck and review the words and kanji used in that anime. This is a great tool for immersion based studying because I can easily choose material that's not too far above my current comprehension, but also difficult enough so that I can learn new words and concepts.

  • subs2srs decks A huge collection of Anki decks created by Japanese learners for other learners! It looks like the original website on blogspot that managed this project has been removed, but you can still access the database with this link. There's a deck for almost every anime ever made here XD. There's also decks for some video games if I remember correctly.

  • kitsunekko Japanese subtitles

  • Anki Probably the best language learning tool out there, and it's completely free for PC and Android. Basically, Anki is an SRS system (AKA souped up flashcards) and if you're learning Japanese and don't know about it already you probably live under a rock.

  • ひいきびいき Podcast that covers various topics in easy Japanese.

  • Jo-Mako Another how to learn Japanese guide. There's also a readability list and some anki decks.

  • Imabi Extensive Japanese grammar guide ranging from beginner to advanced, and even classical Japanese. Explanations are very in-depth, but may be daunting for beginners.
  • Media

  • BSD Bibliophile An online library of works by the authors characters from BSD were based off of. There's videos, pdfs of classical literature, photographs, and fun facts about the authors. You can also find translations of the BSD manga and light novels here.

  • libgen Free books whoop whoop (fellow college students, get your textbooks here)

  • animekaizoku Anime DDL

  • Aniyomi Fork of the android app Tachiyomi that allows extensions for streaming and downloading TV/movies/anime/dramas alongside manga.
